Today, we visualize the world in new ways. From macro and drone photography to satellite imaging we see our planet and the cosmos from a totally new perspective - one that has changed our perception of ourselves. So, the landscape photographs from NASA's Mars Odyssey Mission held a unprecedented fascination.
For the design of LIFE on MARS 02, I used image maps from NASA's Mars Odyssey Mission to create a carpet about the marvellous images being recorded by the spacecraft.
From my LIFE on MARS 02 design pattern, the weavers translated the image into 1,221,080 hand-knots to make this carpet.

LIFE on MARS 01
Was created from a topographical map of the surface of planet Mars - a landscape image of dunes and ice in the Chasma Boreale, a large Martian canyon in the north polar ice cap.
On April 7, 2001 NASA's Mars Odyssey spacecraft left earth entering orbit around Mars on October 24, 2001. Onboard was the Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS) which combines a 5-wavelength visual imaging system with a 9-wavelength infrared imaging system.
Odyssey made its most famous discovery -- evidence of copious water ice just below the dry surface of Mars -- during its first few months, then it finished its radiation-safety check for future astronauts before the end of its prime mission in 2004.
The bonus years since then have allowed scientists to build up high-resolution maps of the entire planet. The maps are assemblages of images from the THEMIS camera, provided and operated by ASU - School of Earth and Space Exploration, Arizona State University, Tempe.
Life on Mars 01 was made for the Inglewood Residence Project, Toronto by Linda Corbett for SOMA Studio.
